If you hire a General Contractor, please check their license and ALL of their subcontractors. Hold 25% of the builders profit until 6 months after you move in, because they will not come back and fix all the defects. If you get a lawyers letter from the GC telling you that your requests are too many and they won't take calls from you, threaten to sue you for extortion and defamation even if you have not posted pictures on Facebook, House etc...please go ahead and hire a lawyer. You will get a lot more done and some money back from any general contractor through a lawyer. Please ask for all invoices from subcontractors.
